An Overview of NIHR Funding
There are various NIHR research programmes available; this page will give you an overview of many of the different funding streams.
 
 
Cancer Research UK (CRUK)
Supports funding for clinical trials, translational research and project/programme grants
 
 
Efficiency & Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme
Supports 'science driven' studies with potential to lead to substantial health gain, particularly Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) and studies evaluating the clinical efficacy of interventions, and the development and testing of new methodologies.
 
 
Health Services and Delivery Research (HS&DR) Programme
Research focusing primarily on research and evidence synthesis relating to patient safety; applied methodology research; measuring quality improvement, and knowledge exchange and transfer within organisations.
 
 
Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme
Funds research focusing on the effectiveness, costs and broader impact of healthcare treatments and tests, including clinical evaluation and trials.
 
 
Medical Research Council (MRC)
Funds medical and healthcare-related research through a range of grants, calls, studentships and fellowships.
 
 
National Institute for Health Research Central Commissioning Facility (NIHR CCF)
Primary source of information for NHS clinicians and related health researchers seeking NIHR and DH funding.
 
 
NIHR Evaluation, Trials & Studies Coordination Centre (NETSCC)
Gateway to information about several funding programmes administered through the NIHR and other bodies: HTA; EME; PHR; SDO and HSR programmes.
 
 
NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research
Funding for proposals comprising a series of related projects forming a coherent theme in an area of priority or need for the NHS.
